Middle Mile Broadband Infrastructure Program
To support the expansion of affordable, reliable, high-speed internet to rural communities, MidAmerican will install more than 700 miles of fiber optic infrastructure through 2025. The company was recently awarded a Middle Mile Broadband Infrastructure Program grant from the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) to support this broadband extension work. The new infrastructure will allow internet service providers and community anchor institutions the opportunity to lease low-cost dark fiber.
Currently, MidAmerican is working to partner with qualified contractors to help us engineer, procure material and construct six separate fiber optic cable routes between existing MidAmerican facilities in rural Iowa. MidAmerican is also sharing project information with community members in the targeted counties to determine interest in participating once the installation is complete.
