Middle-Mile Fiber Broadband
Starting in 2025, internet service providers (ISPs) across Iowa will be able to leverage MidAmerican Energy’s expanding fiber network to build new broadband connections and bring affordable, reliable high-speed internet to Iowa communities.
Bridging the broadband gap
With the help of a $37.8 million federal grant, we are expanding our fiber network to extend more than 2,775 miles across Iowa and beyond. ISPs can then lease our expanded fiber infrastructure at a low rate, using our network as the “middle mile” between global internet networks and building new “last mile” connections to local areas. This will allow ISPs to provide high-speed broadband to underserved neighborhoods or introduce more internet options to communities currently served.
