At MidAmerican Energy, our commitment to you, the customer, is to provide safe, reliable, cost-effective energy today while preparing to meet the energy needs of the future. As a result of our efforts, our Iowa base electric rates have remained stable since 1995.

Costs associated with environmental regulations, as well as the rising costs of coal and coal transportation, have simply outpaced our ability to maintain current rates. To help offset these costs, MidAmerican Energy is preparing to file an application with the Iowa Utilities Board for approval to add two adjustment clauses to the electric portion of Iowa customers’ bills.

• The environmental cost adjustment clause will help cover the depreciation, operation and maintenance of environmental upgrades designed to reduce emissions.
• The fuel adjustment clause will help cover the increased costs of coal and coal transportation.

Any change in rates is subject to Iowa Utilities Board approval.
