DES MOINES, Iowa – (July 10, 2014) – MidAmerican Energy Company ranks first among the nation’s combination electric and natural gas utilities in terms of customer trust, according to a report released July 9, 2014, by a national market research firm.
Cogent Reports, a division of Market Strategies International, surveyed 19,000 residential electric and natural gas customers served by the nation’s 125 largest utility companies as part of its 2014 Utility Trusted Brand & Customer Engagement study. Researchers called it the first study of the utility industry to provide a holistic view of the relationship consumers have with their utility providers by including measurements for brand trust along with operational satisfaction and product experience.
MidAmerican Energy earned a brand trust score of 703 out of a possible 1,000, the highest brand trust score among all utilities in the survey providing both electric and natural gas services to customers. MidAmerican Energy was one of only 15 utilities in the survey to achieve a brand trust score of at least 700.
Chris Oberle, senior vice president for Market Strategies and lead author of the report, said brand trust is critical for strengthening the overall relationships utilities have with their customers. He said customers of utilities with strong brand trust scores tend to enroll in more programs offered by the utility and speak positively about the company in social media forums and elsewhere.
