Gregory E. Abel
President and Chief Executive Officer:MidAmerican Energy Holdings Company

Gregory E. Abel, 48, is president and chief executive officer of MidAmerican Energy Holdings Company, based in Des Moines, Iowa. He serves as chairman and chief executive officer of PacifiCorp, which provides electric service to six Western states and approximately 1.6 million customers, and as the chief executive officer of CE Electric UK, which distributes electricity to approximately 3.7 million customers in England. Additionally, he is chief executive officer of MidAmerican Funding, LLC, the holding company for an integrated utility providing natural gas and electricity to 1.4 million customers in the Midwestern United States. Abel also is a director of Kern River Gas Transmission Company and Northern Natural Gas Company. Kern River is a 1,700 mile interstate pipeline transporting Rocky Mountain and Canadian natural gas to markets in California, Nevada and Utah. Northern Natural Gas Company operates 16,400 miles of pipeline extending from the Permian Basin in Texas to the Upper Midwest.

His responsibilities at MidAmerican are the operation and management of the holdings company; PacifiCorp's and MidAmerican Energy Company's supply and marketing and delivery services businesses; the CE Electric UK distribution businesses; CalEnergy's operations as an independent power producer; and the Kern River Gas Transmission Company and Northern Natural Gas Company pipeline operations. Furthermore, he is responsible for the evaluation of opportunities relating to acquisitions and project development.

Abel serves as a director of MidAmerican Energy Holdings Company and HomeServices of America, Inc., based in Minneapolis, Minn., the second-largest full-service independent residential real estate brokerage firm in the United States.

Abel serves on the board and executive committee of the Edison Electric Institute and the Greater Des Moines Partnership. He also serves on the Kum & Go, L.C. board of directors, the Drake University board of trustees, the Wells Fargo Iowa community board of directors, the executive board of the Mid-Iowa Council Boy Scouts of America and the American Football Coaches Foundation board of directors.
