Electric Transmission

Project Benefits

Through its involvement in four projects, MidAmerican Energy will build approximately 241 miles of 345-kV transmission lines between 2014 and 2017. The projects are primarily designed to improve system reliability in Iowa, relieve existing transmission congestion in Iowa and Illinois, improve utilization of existing generation, and lower the cost of delivered energy. The additional transmission also will be designed to optimize wind generation placement and to allow for the regional delivery of renewable generation in Iowa.

The projects will create several economic benefits, including landowner easement payments, an increase in annual property tax payments to local counties, construction jobs, and future generation interconnection possibilities.
