Electric Transmission

Project Benefits

Through its involvement in four projects, MidAmerican Energy will build approximately 243 miles of 345-kV transmission lines between 2014 and 2018. The projects are primarily designed to improve system reliability in Iowa and Illinois, relieve existing transmission congestion in Iowa and Illinois, improve utilization of existing power generation, and lower the cost of delivered energy. The additional transmission also will be designed to optimize wind-powered generation placement and to allow for the regional delivery of renewable generation in Iowa and Illinois. Landowners will benefit by having fewer poles and less land area occupied with the new transmission design.

The projects will create several economic benefits, including landowner easement payments, an increase in annual property tax payments to local counties, construction jobs, and future power generation interconnection possibilities.
