- Federal Tax Credits for Energy Efficiency - Federal tax credits for qualifying improvements to existing homes are available, covering 30 percent of the cost of qualifying improvements up to a $1,500 combined maximum. Federal tax credits to new and existing homes also are available for qualifying renewable energy systems, covering 30 percent of the cost of qualifying systems, with no maximum.

- ENERGY STAR® - Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs - If just one light bulb in every American home was replaced with an ENERGY STAR-qualified bulb, we would save enough energy to light more than 3 million homes for a year,
approximately $700 million in annual energy costs, and prevent 9 billion
pounds of greenhouse gases equivalent to the emissions of approximately 800,000 cars.
